2019 Tucson, AZ. Road Camp is a go. 6 days (if you arrive early enough for Sundays travel shake down ride), 6 nights. Arrival date is set for Feb. 17th (Sunday) and departure date is set for Feb. 23rd (the following Saturday). You will have to make your own travel and transportation arrangements. If you arrive early enough on Sunday, we'd like to go on the travel shake down ride (mentioned above) on the VERY cool local bike path system. We recommend grabbing flights as soon as possible as they are pretty darn inexpensive right now (as of 10/21/18). They are available directly to Tucson or you can use the Phoenix airport.
If you would like to know a lttle bit about the hosts, Me (Marty Albe) and Kerstin Albe, and our backgrounds in cycling and fitness, go to the "A Little Bit About Us" link
The cost of the camp and lodging is broken down to:
- AZ Road Camp & Single Occupancy Room (Significant other may join you but not be part of the camp with this option): $1550.00
- AZ Road Camp & Double Occupancy Room (Cost per athlete. Must sign up in tandem with a designated room mate and camp participant with this option): $1075.00
- AZ Road Camp & Staying at the Velo Villa: $875
- AZ Road Camp, no lodging, but all the coaching, support and logistics: $600
We have done our best, and for those of you that know us can attest to, with keeping the cost of this down and extremely competitive with what we do and what we offer. After all, It's about the health, not the wealth,,, but we still have to keep operations running. With that being said, we respectfully advise that discounts will not be offered.
The "Velo Villa" is our small Air BNB 5 minutes riding time from the host hotel by bike path and 30 seconds ride time from the bike path itself. It is a 1 bedroom (shared with a privacy curtain between the beds) with 2 full beds and 1 single upper bunk on one of the full beds, 2 queen sized air mattresses are available with space in the living area. It has WiFi, cable, big screen TV, Living room, dining area, kitchen, 1 bathroom/shower, bike tools and work area, nice little patio, bike storage area, laundry,,,, and Kerstin and I, whether that be a good thing or not ;-)... We are offering to share this with 3 other athletes, but if you are seeking privacy, this would NOT be a good option.
The host hotel is the Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Oro Valley (again, 5 minutes from the Velo Villa). 7 rooms have been reserved for the 6 nights and included in the pricing as stated. A full breakfast is also included with the Holiday Inn Express option. Sign up with this option and we take it from there. Sign up for the various camp/lodging options are available by going to the "CLICK HERE" link on the Home Page and going to the "Online Store" tab, drop down box: Tucson, AZ Road Camp. If you need help with the sign up, or have questions about the Velo Villa, feel free to call Kerstin @ 303 214-4492.
Coaching and riding insight is always going to be part of these camps as will be the route planning and typical mechanical support. Last year we had an optional MTB day for those up for bringing 2 bikes or up for renting a MTB. We will make rental arrangements for you with advanced notice from you once you sign up. This MTB day will be an option again for 2019. We would plan on riding at the Fantasy Island Mountain Bike Park in Tucson, AZ. Trails are all beginner/intermediate, real flowie, a few "techie" spots and lots of fun. Others can go on an "open" road ride if we collectively choose to do a MTB day. This is still a democracy after all...
Monday through Friday will be rubber side down (dirt and/or pavement) riding some of Tucson's favorite and most popular routes. Oh yes, there will be climbing. Plan on full days in the saddle, some Yoga facilitated by our own "Yogini" Kerstin Albe, riding, dining and hanging out with friends (old and new), getting that "holy crap, that was epic" feeling, and the camaraderie that these events naturally bring.
Sag support has been arranged if needed through us and Oro Valley Bicycles, mechanical support will be available through either us (minor repairs and adjustments) at no cost or Oro Valley Bicycles (for more heavy duty type repairs we can't handle effectively).. they will charge for these.. Bike build from shipping to AZ will be done by us or by Oro Valley Bicycles ($50).
We'll plan on one night out on the town (4th Ave in Tucson is always fun)
We have made arrangements for packing and shipping bikes both ways. Evergreen Bike Shop will pack your bike in a standard bike box, ship it via BikeFlights (FedX) to Oro Valley Bicycles in Tucson/Oro Valley, AZ. You would need to allow 3 days (to be safe) once we box it. $130 gets it boxed, delivered to FedX and shipped to Oro Valley. It would be the same for the return trip through Oro Valley Bicycles. We would make the arrangements both ways. Oro Valley Bicycles will also build your bike on arrival in AZ for $50 (as stated above) but THE BEST OPTION is to grab it and we'll slap it together at the Velo Villa, at no charge, as we have all the tools and know how (also as stated above). The shipping options are available by going to the "CLICK HERE" link on the home page and going to the "Onlin Store" tab, drop down box: Tucson, AZ Road Camp.
If you have any questions of any kind about the Tucson, AZ Road Camp or logistics, Please don't hesitate to call Kerstin @ 303 214-4492
